Pakistan hockey team finalised for Asian Games

PAKISTAN HOCKEY Federation (PHF) announced the 16-member squad for the upcoming Asian Games in China in Lahore on Tuesday. Zeeshan Ashraf will lead the team in the mega event, while Muhammad Imran will perform the duties of  vice captain.

Pakistan Hockey Federation's (PHF) selection committee had met in Lahore to finalise the national team for the event which will be held in Guangzhou from November 12 to November 27.

The federation dropped Omer Bhutta, Kashif Javed and Imran Shah from the participating team while penalty corner specialist Sohail Abbass and Salman Akbar succeeded to gain their seat in the national team for the Asian Games.

Other team members are: Muhammad Irfan, Waseem Ahmad, Muhammad Rashid, Fareed Ahmad, Muhammad Tauseeq, Abdul Haseem Khan, Rehan Butt, Shakeel Abbasi, Shafqat Rasool, Muhammad Zubair, Muhammad Waqas Sharif and Muhammad Rizwan. Imran Shah and Kashif Javed will be the reserve players. Khawaja Muhammad Junaid will be the team manager, Michel Van Den (Coach), Ahmad Alam and Ajmal Khan (Assistant Coaches), Faiz Ur Rehman (Physio) and Nadeem Khan Lodhi as the video analyst.

Ten hockey teams will participate in Asian games which have been divided into two pools. Pool A comprises Korea, China, Malaysia, Singapore and Oman, while Group B comprises on Pakistan, India, Japan, Bangladesh and Hong Kong.

As per schedule, Pakistan will play its first match against Hong Kong on November 17, second match against Japan on November 18, third match against India on November 20 and fourth and last pool match against Bangladesh on November 21. Classification matches and semi finals will be played on November 23, while position matches and final match will be played on November 25.
